Vedic Chants Intervention Programme (VCIP)
The Vedic Chants Intervention Programme (VCIP) is one of the most effective group therapies for managing children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Founded by Sri Madhusudan Damle, who has been chanting Vedic hymns since childhood, the program began after he witnessed a simple play at Midam’s painting competition at Satya Special School, Muthialpet, on World Cerebral Palsy Day 2012.Inspired to contribute, he chanted Vedic hymns for children, parents, and special educators. Regular exposure to these chants led to visible behavioral changes, giving birth to VCIP, a free therapy now recognized by major research institutions in India.
Scientific Research & Recognition
In 2014, Midam Foundation collaborated with the Department of Genetics, Madras University to conduct research on VCIP and autism. The research received the Best Poster Award in the Therapeutics category at the ISHG conference in Ahmedabad.
The findings were published in the Molecular Cytogenetics Journal, indexed in the US National Library of Medicine (PubMed), stating:
"The auditory stimulus (Vedic chants) has the potential to provoke the cognitive abilities of children. Vedic Chants therapy might be one of the efficient group therapies for the management of children with ASD."
This pioneering research paper has been cited by multiple scientists studying Indian Knowledge Systems.
VCIP at Various NGOs
VCIP is a free therapy conducted at multiple NGOs, institutions, and individual levels. The auditory stimulus used in the program consists of carefully selected Sanskrit chants from the Vedas, Upanishads, and other well-known Sanskrit texts. Midam aims to spread awareness about the therapeutic benefits of Vedic chants for cognitive and emotional well-being.
