Midam Foundation

On November 24, 1996, Sri Madhusudan Damle received the word "Midam" deep in meditation. He described it as a literal vision—a descent of three sacred letters: “मि द म्.”. At that moment, he quickly grabbed a white chit and penned them down with a red marker, ensuring the vision was not forgotten. On the auspicious Bhoomi Pujan day, he even crafted a toran (decorative hanging) of the word Midam and placed it on the fence, marking its first materialization in the physical world.By 1999, he built a structure bearing the name Midam and spent countless hours meditating upon it. However, he refrained from assigning any personal meaning to the word. Instead, he sought guidance from various Sanskrit scholars, who speculated that Midam sounded like a maha-mantra meaning "I am that." Yet, none could define it precisely.Years passed, and Damleji continued holding this mantra close to his heart, keeping it a secret. Then, during an intense meditation, he earnestly called upon the Divine to reveal its meaning. In that moment, he received an inner voice:“Don’t you know? It is short for ‘Miraravindashranam mama.’”This phrase, a Dashakshara Mantra, revealed that the first, fifth, and tenth letters aligned with "मि द म्.". Satisfied with this divine revelation, Damleji still chose to keep it private.

Our Symbol

The Midam logo carries profound symbolism.

  • The sphere represents Earth, our shared home.

  • Blue signifies the skies, while green embodies flora and fauna.

  • The yellow arched diamond symbolizes humanity in harmony with the five elements.

  • Within the diamond is a tiny flame, representing the Chaitya Purusha—the "Psychic Being" and its aspiration.

  • The outer flame reflects this aspiration merging with the Divine Will, crowned by the three letters: मि द म्.

The Birth of a Mission

In 2011, during an auspicious moment of inspiration, Damleji gave Midam a symbol and significance. Under his direction, his NGO embarked on a journey of Loka Sangraha (collective upliftment), leading to the creation of impactful initiatives such as:

Though these projects touched tens of thousands of lives globally, only a handful of individuals actively participated. Yet, all activities were undertaken freely, without soliciting donations.

A New Beginning: The Midam Foundation

In September 2024, Damleji was deeply inspired by senior citizens from the Sri Aurobindo Ashram who were voluntarily cleaning up the beaches, removing the litter that was being indiscriminately dumped. Moved by their selfless service, he personally joined the movement, actively engaging in beach cleanups. This experience reinforced the need for organized collective action, and on October 18, 2024, Damleji officially restructured his NGO as The Midam Foundation. This transformation aimed to facilitate mass participation, governmental collaboration, and social impact—all while preserving his ethos of “united yet free” service.

Dream Realized

“They call it only a dream. Let us all join hands to make it a living truth.”

— Sri Madhusudan Damleji

Damleji’s vision was clear, and his actions were subtle. He silently laid the Aadhar (foundation) of Midam by focusing on each step with precision. His ultimate aim was to create a Gnostic Society—a space where individuals unite for the one true purpose of human existence: the evolution and upliftment of humanity.

The dream is now taking form. While Damleji is never in a hurry, when it comes to manifesting the Divine Will, he works at Godspeed.

Om Midam.
